Ball check valves are designed with a ball that sits on top of the valve seat. When fluid flows through the valve, the ball is pushed up and allows fluid to pass through. When fluid tries to flow back through the valve, the ball is pushed back down onto the seat, preventing back-flow.

Swing check valves are designed with a hinged disc that swings open when fluid flows through the valve. When fluid tries to flow back through the valve, the disc swings shut, preventing back-flow.

Lift check valves are designed with a disc that lifts up when fluid flows through the valve. When fluid tries to flow back through the valve, the disc is pushed back down onto the seat, preventing back-flow.

Diaphragm check valves are designed with a flexible diaphragm that flexes open when fluid flows through the valve. When fluid tries to flow back through the valve, the diaphragm flexes shut, preventing back-flow.
